About Muscle Cell News


Muscle Cell News is Connexon Creative’s 18th science newsletter, and our first publication to cover three distinct cell types of the same tissue, namely skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle cells. The Connexon team had long felt that we needed to offer a publication that focused on muscle, particularly given that none of our existing newsletters were adequately covering new developments in regenerative medicine using cardiac, smooth and skeletal muscles. We hope you enjoy Muscle Cell News – we think it is going to quickly grow into one of our most popular science newsletters.


Every day, our editorial team sifts through all of the most recent scientific literature and news selects the relevant and highest impact publications for our audience. It’s a big job, but we love it, and years of experience have made us very good at it. Muscle Cell News has a fairly large scope, as it covers three distinct cell types. To keep things organized, we’ve divided the Publications section of Muscle Cell News into three sub-sections: Cardiac Muscle Cells, Skeletal Muscle Cells and Smooth Muscle Cells. The Cardiac Muscle Cell section features the most recent, relevant studies on cardiomyocytes. Common topics include cardiomyogenesis, myocardial necrosis, cardiomyocyte differentiation and proliferation. We also include research on cardiac stem cells, including identification, characterization, culturing and applications in regenerative medicine, such as the potential repair of injured myocardium. The Skeletal Muscle Cell section contains research relating to muscle stem cells, muscle progenitor cells (myoblasts), skeletal myocytes and satellite cells. Examples of specific research topics include skeletal muscle cell atrophy, inflammation, injury, metabolism, repair and regeneration. We also include research related to diseases and disorders impacting skeletal muscle cells such as muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other myopathies. Finally, the Smooth Muscle Cell section covers research topics including cellular structure and function, excitation, stimulation, contraction and relaxation. We also include recent developments in smooth muscle metabolism, damage, repair, growth and rearrangement, and disorders and dysfunction. Specific areas of interest include research into the smooth muscle of blood vessels, urinary bladder, uterus, reproductive tracts, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, skin, ciliary muscle and iris.


All of our science newsletters are intended to keep scientists and medical professionals current in their fields while allowing for more time at the bench, carrying out experiments, or directly helping patients. Muscle Cell News is specifically targeted to scientists, from graduate students through the principal investigators, who are interested in muscle tissue at the cellular level. We specifically narrow the scopes of our newsletters to focus on cell biology to ensure that our readers know what to expect each and every time they open one of our emails.
